Rare Books

The Chartered Insurance Institute holds a collection of around 200 rare books and manuscripts. These include dictionaries, directories and handbooks on subjects related to insurance.

Two of the rare books in our collection, The Plan and System of the General Insurance-Office (1787) and A New Dictionary of Trade and Commerce Compiled from the Information of the Most Eminent Merchants (1756) with a preface by ‘Dr’ Samuel Johnson, as well as a copy of the CII’s original Royal Charter of 1912, have been fully digitised.
